There are many ways to give birth; normal is just one of them. 

Labor is like a box of CrackerJacks; you'll find a surprise in every birth.

We don't get to choose the surprise, length, or outcome-

so soulful preparation needs to be courageous, open-minded, non-judgmental, 

and inclusive of all possibilities.

As we begin to understand, embrace, and prepare for childbirth as a profound initiation--

we can approach it in humility, surrender, and self-love.

Our attitudes and expectations evolve and judgments fade away.

This is the true Work of preparation and the meaning of initiation.

As the author of the popular book Birthing From Within, I am a seasoned listener and innovative mentor for parents interested in thoughtfully exploring the always-a-bit-unknown territories called Laborland and Postpartum. Labor is synonymous with unpredictability--my approach to preparation is that every session is unique and fresh in response to who has come and what heart questions they have brought to explore.
